This Uganda journey offers a well-balanced combination of nature, wildlife, culture, primates, hiking, and scenic landscapes.

Your trip starts with pick-up in Entebbe Airport or Hotel and continues through the Source of the Nile, Mount Elgon and Sipi Falls, Karamoja, and Murchison Falls National Park via Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. You will then explore Kibale Forest for chimpanzee trekking, enjoy classic wildlife experiences in Queen Elizabeth National Park, hike volcanic mountains in Mgahinga National Park, track gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, relax in Lake Mburo National Park, and finish with a final stay in Kampala with Mabamba visit before departure.

A private vehicle with a professional driver-guide will accompany you throughout the journey to ensure comfort and flexibility.

Schedule Details

Day 1 – Arrival & Transfer to Jinja | Source of the Nile

You will be picked up from the hotel or at the airport by your private driver-guide and transferred to Jinja, a calm town located at the northern shores of Lake Victoria.

Upon arrival, you will visit the Source of the Nile, the historic point where the Nile River officially begins its 6,650 km journey to the Mediterranean Sea. This site is of great geographical and historical importance and offers peaceful river views, birds, and a gentle introduction to Uganda’s natural story.

Afterwards, enjoy a boat ride along the Nile, taking in the calm waters, scenic riverbanks, and abundant birdlife. This relaxing cruise offers a unique perspective of the Nile and sets the perfect tone for your Uganda adventure.

Day 2 – Journey to Mount Elgon Region

Today you travel toward Mount Elgon, one of East Africa’s oldest extinct volcanoes.

The drive reveals Uganda’s changing landscapes, fertile farmlands, banana plantations, and rising highlands.

Mount Elgon’s slopes are known for rich volcanic soils, cool temperatures, and rural life. The region feels calm, green, and authentic, far from busy tourist routes.

After arriving in the Mount Elgon region, you will have time to rest and refresh from the journey. In the afternoon, enjoy a coffee tour, visiting local farms to see how Arabica coffee is grown, harvested, and processed naturally on the mountain slopes. This experience provides insight into local culture, agriculture, and community life, all in a relaxed setting.

Day 3 – Sipi Falls & Mountain Nature Experience

After an early morning breakfast shall start off the tour with a walk and Hike near Sipi falls. It comprises of 3Water falls all nearby, in view of the beautiful scenery of Mountain Elgon and the plains.

There are caves behind the main falls and on the look for lots of birds to discover as you climb all the way to the top of the falls.

The views are breathtaking and the hike is estimated to take about 3½ hours but this will depend on your physical ability because reaching the main waterfalls is steep as you go down and hilly as climb back.

The entire trip takes you through the community with good views of the hilly areas around this region there by making a great morning.

Return for lunch at your place of accommodation and relaxation driving back to your place of accomodation , will start through the same route.

Day 4 – Transfer to Moroto | Entering Karamoja

After breakfast, you travel into Karamoja, one of Uganda’s most remote and least commercialized regions.

The scenery opens into wide plains and rocky hills, giving a strong sense of space and wilderness. Moroto town lies at the base of Mount Moroto and acts as the cultural heart of the region.

Karamoja offers a rare chance to experience traditional pastoral life, preserved customs, and strong community identity.

Upon arrival, you’ll settle into your accommodation, preparing for the next day’s exhilarating trekking experience.

Day 5 – Mount Moroto Hike

Early breakfast and full day hike to the valley of Moroto and end up at the place called “Nangataret” a Karimojong bound meaning a place of winning. We set our with packed lunch, can be eaten on one of the stop/resting point.

The hike takes us through the valley of Mt. Moroto and the homesteads of the Tepeth minority group of people.

In the late afternoon walk to one of the strategic rocks suitable for sundowner view while waiting for dinner to get ready.

Day 6 – Slop back, Karamoja Culture & Transfer to Lira

The day begins with breakfast while enjoying a beautiful sunrise. After breakfast, return to Moroto town and explore the Karamoja region, followed by lunch. In the late afternoon, depart for Lira City. Upon arrival in Lira, check in at Lira Hill Hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 7 – Transfer to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, Rhino Tracking & Transfer to Murchison Falls

After breakfast, depart from Lira and head to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. Upon arrival, enjoy lunch before embarking on an exciting rhino tracking experience on foot, accompanied by knowledgeable rangers. This intimate activity allows you to observe these endangered animals up close while supporting conservation efforts. Later in the evening, continue your journey to Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest and most spectacular park, known for its dramatic landscapes and abundant wildlife.

Day 8 – Game Drives along the Northern Banks of River Nile and Boat Ride to the Bottom of the Falls

You'll wake up early in the morning to have breakfast and undertake a game drive along the northern banks of the River Nile. You'll watch out for the topis, elephants, oribis, Rothschild giraffes, Uganda Kobs, lions, buffaloes, leopards, Defassa waterbucks, Jackson’s hartebeests, spotted hyenas, and warthogs among others. You'll have lunch after 3-4 hours of the game drive and retire to the lodge for lunch.

 

In the afternoon, the Nile River will await your presence, for the boat cruise to the bottom of the Murchison Falls, where you will see numerous hippos and crocodiles. The wildlife, birds, and views of the Nile plunging through a narrow gorge of 7 meters make the boat cruise the highlight of the visit to Murchison Falls National Park. You'll return to the banks of the Nile River for a drive back to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 9 – Transfer to Lake Albert

You will drive towards Lake Albert, part of the western arm of the Great Rift Valley. The lake is framed by scenic escarpments and dotted with fishing villages, and is known for its hippos and diverse birdlife. The peaceful and reflective atmosphere offers a unique perspective of Uganda away from the classic safari routes. Upon arrival, enjoy lunch at the lodge, then head to the lake shores for a boat ride to observe hippos along the shoreline and spot a variety of lake birds.

For those interested, sport fishing is also available, providing an opportunity to catch some of the lake’s popular fish species.

Day 10 – Journey to Kibale Forest

You'll enjoy an early morning breakfast and check out of the lodge for a drive to Kibale Forest National Park through the green countryside, rolling hills, and valleys, and enjoy views of the Rwenzori Mountains peaks covered with snow as well as the Escarpment wall, among others.

 

This is probably the longest ride of this safari and comes with several stops to stretch your legs. You'll have lunch, then be in Kibale Forest National Park in the evening for an overnight stay and dinner.

Day 11 – Chimp trekking & transfer to Queen Elizabeth NP

After your breakfast transfer for briefing at Kanyanchu Visitor Centre before heading into the forest with expert trackers. You’ll search for chimpanzees in their natural habitat, often encountering them feeding, grooming, or swinging through the trees. After an exhilarating hour with a habituated group, return to the lodge for lunch and depart for Queen Elizabeth National Park.

The drive takes you along the Rwenzori foothills and past crater lakes and Equator imaginary crossing site before arriving at Queen Elizabeth National Park. Enjoy a late afternoon game drive through the park later settling in a The Bush Lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 12 – Game viewing drive & Kazinga Channel Boat cruise

After early morning breakfast head off to explore the Kasenyi plains on a guided game drive.

Expect sightings of elephants, lions, warthogs, kob, hyenas, and possibly leopards.

Return to the lodge for lunch and head out again in the afternoon for a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel—a natural waterway connecting Lake Edward and Lake George.

You'll pass pods of hippos, crocodiles, and a spectacular array of waterbirds including kingfishers, storks, and African fish eagles.

Return to The Bush lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 13 – Transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Travel south into the Virunga volcanic region, one of the most scenic parts of East Africa.

Mgahinga is characterized by volcanic cones, bamboo forests, and misty mountain views, creating a dramatic natural setting.

Day 14 – Volcano Hike (Mount Gahinga or Mount Muhabura)

A guided hike on Mount Gahinga or Mount Muhabura takes you through bamboo zones and alpine vegetation.

From the summit, you enjoy panoramic views across Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, a powerful sense of place and geography.

Day 15– Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

You travel into Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, an ancient rainforest recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The forest is dense, misty, and incredibly rich in biodiversity, setting the stage for one of Africa’s most meaningful wildlife experiences.

Day 16 – Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi, transfer to Lake Mburo National Park

Today is the big day! Prepare yourself for an encounter with the gentle mountain gorillas. After your morning breakfast, you will go to the headquarters of the Park where the park rangers will brief you about the gorilla trekking experience. You will go into the forest in groups of not more than 8 in search of mountain gorillas. En route, your guide will point out previous signs of gorilla activity such as dung, nests, and chewed bamboo shoots.

This trek is an exciting journey along forested slopes, entwined vines, bushes, and bamboo. Upon finding the gorillas, you will spend a maximum of 1 hour with them after which you will be led back to the starting point.

 

After the gorilla trekking, you will transfer to Lake Mburo National park to immerse yourself in the beauty of this Park. When you arrive early at Lake Mburo NP, you will go for a short evening game drive.

Day 17 – Morning game drive & boat cruise

Enjoy breakfast at the lodge before setting out for a morning game drive in Lake Mburo National Park. The cool morning hours provide excellent opportunities to spot wildlife, including zebras, giraffes, elands, topis, other antelope species, and Cape buffaloes.

You may also choose a guided walking safari, cycling, or horseback safari, all of which allow you to experience the wilderness up close. During the excursion, take a trail to the top of the surrounding hills, where you will be rewarded with panoramic views of Lake Mburo and its surrounding landscape , from this vantage point, you can see up to nine of the twelve lakes that make up the park’s unique ecosystem. After the morning adventure, return to the lodge for lunch, then embark on a boat cruise to explore the park from the water and observe wildlife along the lakeshore. Later, return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 18 – Transfer to Kampala

Enjoy breakfast in the morning before departing for Kampala. Along the way, stop at the Equator for photos and a chance to experience this unique landmark. Continue your journey and enjoy lunch en route, before arriving in Kampala, where you will check in at Mahogany Springs Lodge for an overnight stay.

Day 19 – Birding Mabamba & Transfer to Entebbe

After breakfast, your birding experience at Mabamba Swamps begins. Birding here is done from a canoe, offering a unique and immersive experience. You may spot a variety of species, including the rare Shoebill, White-faced Whistling-Duck, Fulvous Whistling-Duck, Goliath Heron, Purple Heron, Common Squacco Heron, Long-toed Plover, African Water Rail, Grey and Black-headed Herons, Striated Heron, Pygmy Goose, Yellow-billed Duck, Black Crake, Swamp Moorhen, Allen’s Gallinule, African Jacana, and many more. With luck, you might also see the Sitatunga, a swamp-dwelling antelope.

After your birding adventure, enjoy lunch at the lodge, then proceed to Kampala or Entebbe for the next part of your journey.
